Team News

  • Michael O'Neill has been very consistent with his back four and midfield but has struggled to nail down a regular attacking line during this qualification campaign.
  • The lone striker role is contested between Josh Magennis and Kyle Lafferty with Conor Washington unavailable for the home side.
  • Goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad through injury and been replaced by Marco Bizot.
  • Bizot is one of three AZ Alkmaar players who could make their international debuts this week, along with exciting prospects Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu.
  • As qualification is not yet assured, Ronald Koeman will go with his usual XI on Saturday. The only real doubt is who plays on the right wing between Donyell Malen and Steven Bergwijn.

Prediction

  • Northern Ireland have lost their last two Euro 2020 qualifiers, albeit to Germany and the Netherlands, and now stand on the brink of elimination. They are three points off the top two but know a defeat here, in addition to Germany beating Belarus, would end their hopes of qualifying for next summer's tournament.
  • The Netherlands are currently top of Group C due to their superior head-to-head goal difference over rivals Germany and cannot afford to take their foot off the gas in their last two qualifiers. They were losing to Northern Ireland in the reverse fixture before scoring three goals in the last 10 minutes, including two in stoppage time, to run out 3-1 winners. Ronald Koeman should expect a similarly difficult game on Saturday.
